Today
we were woken at 6.00am (ouch!) by Rueben with tea and juice, in
time for our 6.30am game drive in the Serengeti.
This time we set off for the river and saw plenty of wildlife that
we hadn't see on the previous day - crocodiles, pelicans, monkeys,
etc. We had a drink and watched the sun rise, and returned to camp
for around 10.00am for a full breakfast.
We got a bit of a shock when we returned to our tent since we surprised
a monkey that was relaxing on the sun lounger on our verandah. We're
not sure who got the worse shock - the monkey or us - as it scarpered
into nearby vegetation.
After
relaxing by the plunge pool, we had lunch right by the hippo river.
We were a little surprised when we heard that we would be having
mongoose soup to start, but our look of surprise eventually passed
when we realised Rueben had in fact said mango soup, not mongoose
soup! Lunch was followed by another game drive where we saw lionesses
with cubs feeding on a wildebeest and some cheetahs relaxing, after
feeding on an impala (see below).
After a leisurely glass of wine at the drinking hole (where we had
our first good sighting of a buffalo) we returned to the camp and
had dinner with Ken and Kim, and Doug, Sue and Kieran (some South
African guests). We also met Karen who managed the Camp with Peter,
but had been away, recovering from malaria. Quite a few glasses
of red wine later, we crashed out exhausted.
