An early start... :-(
Big Ali brought tea, juice and breakfast to our room. We finished
our packing, boarded the boat and waved goodbye. The sun was rising
as we crossed to Zanzibar and a number of fisherman were out in
their dhows.
Once at Zanzibar, we were transferred by road to Stone Town ready
for our flight to Arusha. We had a brief opportunity to buy a souvenir
before reaching the airport. Once Becky had established that the
driver was in fact saying "Have a nice trip" and not "Have
you my tip?" we were assisted through the airport to a lounge
where we waited for our flight. In the lounge was a Dutch man and
his son who we'd seen on our flight out to Zanzibar. Once at Arusha
our CC Africa transfer failed to materialise so it was just as well
that the CC Africa lady that met us on Day 2 just so happened to
be at the airport to pick up her daughter. She kindly gave us a
lift to the Arusha Coffee Lodge where we had a room for the day.
We
relaxed at the Lodge and had their buffet lunch. Paul was told to
"eat as much as you can" but, given that he likes a challenge,
"eat as much as you want" might have been a little more
appropriate. We killed time until 6.00pm - Paul had a very quick
dip in the freezing cold pool, and we strolled amongst the coffee
trees. At 6.00pm it was time for our transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport;
on the journey out of Arusha, we saw all manner of activity - everything
from garden plants being sold, to welding being done, all on the
side of the road. We saw Mount Meru (the fifth highest mountain
in Africa) very clearly and the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro (the
highest in Africa) in the distance.
Once at the airport, we checked in and headed for the business lounge
after looking at the shops. The lounge was surprisingly well-equipped,
and we played pool, drank and ate samosas. Whilst we were there,
the Dutch man we'd met earlier who was to be on our flight to Amsterdam
also, tried to blag his way into the business lounge, claiming that
he knew us, but failed miserably.
Finally, it was time for our flight home... our wonderful honeymoon
was coming to an end.
