Mnemba Island is a major turtle nesting site and this morning we
were notified about a turtle hatching - we went out and saw a small
green turtle struggling its way across the beach. It wasn't taking
the shortest route so was given a little human assistance, and we
watched as it entered the sea (see video footage).
Becky
had been given a Michael Crichton book by Luigi so the exchange
was completed with the now finished Harry Potter novel. We walked
around the island once again, this time with our snorkelling gear,
and went into the sea for the occasional, quick dip en route. Back
at the coral reef, we saw all manner of fish, a number of eel-like
creatures and a bright blue starfish.
We had lunch (see photo gallery below) - the fish was white snape
- and chatted once again to the English couple that married on the
same day as us. Because neither of us had many photos of us together
(mostly just pictures of animals from the safari elements of our
respective honeymoons), Becky had the great idea that we met up
later in the afternoon and took pictures of each other. This worked
out particularly when we realised that Charlie's camera (a Canon
G3) was almost identical to Paul's (a Canon G5).
We met up at 5.00pm, saw a starfish that had been washed ashore,
took some great pictures and returned to our lodge for our final
sundowner on the island. We begrudgingly did a little packing and
went for dinner where we met a Greek couple who recommended that
we try a particular place on Santorini for one of our future holidays.
That night was a fairly sleepless one since it was a near full moon
(so the doves kept coo-ing pretty much throughout the night) and
we had a very early departure the next day.
